Carl Moser: A True Champion of Safety in Arizona Dirt Track Racing
In the heart of Arizona’s dirt track racing community, one name stands out as a cornerstone of safety and dedication: Carl Moser. With over two decades of experience and an unwavering commitment to keeping drivers and fans safe, Carl has become an indispensable figure in the world of dirt track racing. His journey, from a push truck driver to the leader of a respected fire safety team, is a testament to his passion, expertise, and drive to make the sport safer for everyone involved.
Carl’s journey began in 2004 when he started as a push truck driver. Since then, his role has evolved significantly, and in 2025, he now proudly celebrates his 21st year in the dirt track racing community. “Safety was always paramount,” Carl says, a value deeply rooted in his 20+ years of service in the U.S. Air Force working with explosives. This military background equipped Carl with a keen sense of safety, discipline, and a drive to improve.
It wasn’t long before Carl transitioned into a leadership role, becoming the coordinator for push trucks and noticing critical gaps in safety protocols. Determined to bridge these gaps, Carl began implementing safety measures that have since transformed the way incidents are handled on the track.
Though Carl has worked at numerous tracks, his favorite remains New Paris Speedway in New Paris, Indiana. “I grew up going to this track with my dad and my uncle Brent,” he recalls fondly. Sitting in turn two with their feet on the wall, watching the races, laid the foundation for Carl’s love of racing.
Carl’s most memorable experience stems from a conversation with Steve Stroud, a prominent figure in the racing world. “Steve came up to me and told me how much he appreciated what I was doing and offered to help,” Carl shares. “He was the first, but not the last.” These moments of recognition from drivers, car owners, fans, and promoters keep Carl and his team motivated to give their all.
However, not every moment on the track is a positive one. One of Carl’s worst experiences occurred in Show Low, Arizona, in September 2023. While he doesn’t go into details, it’s clear that the challenges of his role are immense. Yet, Carl’s resilience and dedication ensure he continues to meet every incident with the same calm, steady focus.
Carls one statement about Brad Whitfield when asked if there’s anything he would like to say; with Brad being a prominent figure in the racing world, and share a unique rapport friendship, “Fortunately, Brad and I have a good relationship. I don’t beat around the bush, so he pretty much hears what I have to say,” Carl states. His honesty and open communication have undoubtedly contributed to his success as a leader in the dirt track racing community.
At the end of the day, Carl Moser’s favorite part of his role is being there for drivers when they need him most. His ability to bring calm to chaos and his passion for safety make him an irreplaceable figure in Arizona’s dirt track racing scene. For Carl, the job isn’t just about responding to crashes; it’s about building trust, creating a safer racing environment, and inspiring the next generation to continue his legacy. His impact on the racing community is undeniable, and his dedication is a shining example of what it means to truly love the sport.
Carl’s contributions to the racing world extend beyond safety coordination. With over 14 years of experience as a certified EMT, Carl is often the first responder to crashes and incidents. “You have to remember it’s their emergency, not yours,” Carl advises. Staying calm, analyzing the situation, and relying on training are crucial in his high-pressure role. Even though drivers may initially yell in frustration, Carl takes pride in knowing that his presence brings them peace of mind during their worst moments.
“If you love racing and it’s a passion, come see us. You can’t beat our seats they are the best in the house. Take a ride in a truck, and you will be hooked just like the rest of us.” Carl expressed. Carl’s enthusiasm for the sport and his dedication to safety is infectious, and he invites anyone with a passion for racing to join the team and experience the thrill of being on the front lines.
